From an e-mail I sent the class this morning...
Good morning,
I'm sending this to each of you individually in hopes that you'll receive it.
If you do get it, could you please send me a quick e-mail in response saying
you got it? Thanks...
First, I apologize for the mixup and miscommunication about where we were meeting yesterday. I sent an e-mail Sunday evening, but apparently that didn't go through; however, the information was still posted in two places on the web site by Monday night... Make sure you're checking there for updates, too.
We will be in Beering 282 (and that's for sure, now) on the days we would usually meet in Heavilon as a whole class. For this Thursday and next, we'll be in our regular classroom, ENAD 130.
I would like EVERYONE who has Wednesday conferences to come today so we can get caught up. Follow the schedule for FORMAT 1, found at http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~aferdina/2005f/schedule.php near the bottom of the page.
Ok...Hope this goes through...Amy

As you'll remember, we're meeting in Beering B282 on Tuesday and Friday of this week and next to start work on your Final Electronic Portfolio assignment for this class. Thursday we will be in our regular computer lab, ENAD 130.
Many of you are novice web designers, and that is okay. I've compiled a resource document that should be helpful for you as you navigate your way through the project. Click here for the Web Design Basics document.
As we've discussed repeatedly this semester, it is important to consider our audience before we complete any writing task. Designing a website is no different. So on Thursday, we'll be discussing some web design principles that take into account our audience's needs. It'll be an interesting discussion, so don't miss it.
Details for the Annotated Bibliography Assignment can be found here.
Important information to remember about the assignment: You'll be required to collect 7-10 resources that are relevant to the question that you are trying to answer with your research.
The Annotated Bibliography is due on Tuesday, November 15 at the beginning of class. No late assignments will be accepted; no exceptions.
Project 3 will be much like Project 2. You will choose a topic that is of interest to you at this point related to some of the issues we've talked about in class--race, gender, religion, sexuality, etc. All the tricky stuff. Using the same invention strategies as last time, you'll form your ideas into a research question. Then, using the scientific method, you'll shape outside research, combined with your own experiences, into a writing project that seeks to answer that question. As always, you will determine your writing purpose, audience, and genre.
So have at it. Please use the Invention Strategy handouts from Project 2, which you can find below, and check the calendar for due dates.
You will also be responsible for an annotated bibliography for this class, which will be explained as we move through the invention/research process. The annotated bibliography will be due on Friday, November 11. This assignment will replace the Project #3 Proposal assignment.

Alright, folks. It's time to start our long-awaited invention strategies. For the next two weeks we're going to be preparing to write the first project, and you'll find links to the strategy assignment sheets here. You may print them out and complete a hard copy or complete the assignments online. Either way, be sure you have a copy of your work to bring to class on the day each assignment is due.

Samples of the first three strategies.
Your first graded writing assignment is due Friday, September 2. The reading response paper will require you to write a brief summary and a thorough response to one of the articles we have read so far this semester. To check out the full assignment details, click here.
